Grading
There will be four homework assignments during the course and it will end with a written exam.
Generally, there will be a tutorial every four weeks, where students will present and discuss their solutions to homework problems, on the blackboard or using other presentation tools. Homework problems are to be solved out of class. Solutions can also be submitted in writing, preferably using some form of the TeX document preparation system. For more information, see Tutorials.
There will be a final written exam, admittance to is contigent on getting at least half of all possible homework points (except the special, more challenging problems). This means 1615 out of 32 points.

- The exam is written and takes up to 4 hours.
- There will be both results and problems given as exam questions. There will be roughly two problems similar to the ones solved in class, and two results from the lectures, with proofs.
- Problems can include definitions and at least one of them will include somewhat abstract proofs. Results will need to be both stated in detail and proved.
- Admittance to the exam is contigent on getting at least
1615 points from homework assignments. - The exam will be limited open-notes, i.e. you can use your notes (including electronic notes) for a limited time period. Using outside help beyond your notes is prohibited.
- Grading scale is a more or less standard 100-point scale (90p is still B, etc).

Every homework point may increase your final score by 0.625 points (i.e. 1 homework set = 8 homework points = 5/100 grading points). In other words, points above the minimum 50% can indluence your final grade as follows:
- 50%+ - admittance to the exam,
- 75%+ - half a grade,
- 100%+ - a full grade,
- 125%+ - a grade and a half,
- 150%+ - two full grades etc.
NB! The minimal required homework points (1615 points) do not affect the final grade this way. Moreover, these points will not turn a failed grade into a passing grade.
